The sign out front was lettered by essayist Masako Shirasu, which tells you what kind of room this is before you sit down. It's a traditional Japanese restaurant in Kyoto where seasonal cooking, pike conger, matsutake, crab, shifts with the calendar and the chef chooses the technique, grilled, simmered, or otherwise, to suit each ingredient rather than a formula. A Michelin star, and a long-standing favorite of the literary set.
