    Fifteen individually artist-designed rooms tucked into a 19th-century merchants' district that Dubai somehow forgot to demolish. XVA is a boutique hotel, gallery, and vegetarian café folded into one wind-towered building in Al Fahidi, where the alleyways are narrow enough that two people walking abreast is optimistic. Persian arches, palm motifs, and handcrafted textiles do the decorating; no alcohol, but the mint lemonade compensates more than it should.
