Düsseldorf has a proper Japanese quarter, and Yabase sits at the heart of it, a sushi and sashimi restaurant behind a plain facade that opens into a calm, minimalist room. The counter seats you in front of the fish case with the chefs working a few feet away. Lunch means queuing before the door opens; evenings require a booking. Warm sake or Japanese beer, and if you're feeling adventurous, the barbecued tuna head is not a dish that plays it safe.
