The Best Seafood Near Le Benjamin, by the Record

  1. Rank 1. Eero

    Seafood

Named for the architect who designed the building, this seafood tasting-menu restaurant occupies the top floor of the old American Embassy, with a wrap-around terrace that splits its views between the Oslofjord and the Royal Palace gardens. The kitchen runs a fin-to-gill philosophy over a wood-fired oven, so cod might appear as a snack, then return as belly on the bone with its own liver and roe. Dishes arrive all at once, some of them family-style.

  2. A vast three-room seafood restaurant on the Tjuvholmen waterfront, with a terrace close enough to the water that you feel slightly guilty ordering the lobster. The name translates as "Sea Store," and they commit to the premise: pick from a live crab and lobster tank, pull up to the shellfish bar, or order a platter of shellfish landed at the local dock. The lounge bar handles the inevitable Norwegian weather with style.

The score comes from the awards it's won, weighted by who gave them: a Michelin star outweighs a listicle. When you sort by what's nearby, distance changes the order, never the score.

          Best Place Score

The Best Place Score rates the area around a point, not any one place. It runs on the scored places nearby: more good stuff within reach, higher score. If it looks low, we probably haven't found enough critics out here yet.
