The best cafés in Houston, according to the experts: Houstonia and Eater have both weighed in, and their honors are what rank this list. Brass Tacks comes out on top.
More Less
Sunday Press and The Rado Market hold the next two places. Houstonia shows up on more of this list than any other guide, with Eater next.

Rank 2. Sunday Press
Café
Sunday Press is an all-day café in Hermann Park with a drive-through, which is a bold amenity for a place also serving butterfly pea lattes. The light-filled room runs on honey sea salt lattes, nitro cold brew, açai bowls, and sandwiches, so you can order breakfast or a salad you'll mention to someone. After dark it turns into a cocktail lounge called Sunday Social, which is the same room with its personality changed.

Rank 2. Sunday Press
Café
Sunday Press is a bright, all-day café with a drive-through, which is how you know Houston built it. The menu leans wellness: butterfly pea lattes, açai bowls, cold-pressed juice, plus the pastries you'll order to cancel that out. Houstonia has it on its list of the city's best coffee shops. After dark it becomes a cocktail lounge called Sunday Social, same room, fewer laptops.

The all-day cafe sits beneath the historic Eldorado Ballroom in Houston's Third Ward, which tells you something before you've even ordered. Breakfast tacos, sandwiches, and farm-fresh salads fill the menu, and the indoor market stocks condiments, desserts, and wine curated by neighborhood residents. Emancipation Park is right across the street if you'd rather eat outside, and the Hogan Brown Art Gallery is next door if you'd rather linger.

Rank 5. Koffeteria
Southeast Asian Café
Koffeteria is a counter-service bakery and coffee shop on Brittmoore where a kolache can taste like beef pho and the cornbread comes with Cambodian elote ideas. The pastry case wanders freely between Mexico, Brazil, France, and Italy, and nobody there seems worried about passports. The iced coffee arrives salty and sweet, with condensed milk and sourdough butter, which is to say it's a snack with a straw.
