An old-school Italian restaurant in Cologne's city center, Alfredo has been in the Carturan family for two generations, and the pappardelle with braised duck is the dish regulars order without looking down. The chef-patron walks the room himself and talks you through the menu, which is either charming or slightly pressuring depending on your mood. On Friday evenings he closes out a six-course dinner by singing. The menu is straightforward; the finale is not.
