The unmarked black gate is a deliberate tease: no sign, no fanfare, just a turn off the street and suddenly you're inside a 1960s New Khmer villa that once hosted visiting heads of state as King Sihanouk's personal guest house. Aman restored it from a shell using old photographs, and the K-shaped pool and circular domed restaurant survive intact. The two dozen suites come with private courtyards and deep soaking tubs.
