Doro Bet
Ethiopian
A handwritten sign on the door warns that the fried chicken takes at least 15 minutes because it comes out of the fryer to order. This West Philly Ethiopian chicken shop coats its birds in a teff-flour buttermilk batter, then finishes them in either a fiery berbere or a lemon-turmeric version the co-owner invented for her kids. Injera and doro wot round things out for the traditionalists, but the chicken is what the line is about.

Doro wot
“The shop also serves traditional Ethiopian recipes like spicy doro wot and cardamom-scented tibs with injera, but the fried chicken will indeed come out last.”
