    A crystal ceiling lamp designed as an imaginary herbarium hangs over one of Paris's most storied fine dining rooms, inside the Ritz on Place Vendôme. The chef brings an African childhood and a Mediterranean career to the kitchen, smoking and roasting and adding a tartness that feels genuinely unexpected at this address. The result holds a Michelin star and a certain quiet confidence that the gilded room probably needed.
