Fuyacho Kuraku
Japanese
A handwritten menu crowded with dish names covers most of the wall at this izakaya in Nakagyo, where fish from Wakasa Bay, hauled in from the chef's home turf in Fukui, is the quiet obsession. Sashimi, salt-grilled, soy-simmered, and the local heshiko, cured in rice-bran paste, all show up. Fukui sakes round out the regional theme, and the potato salad draws regulars back just as reliably as the more serious stuff.
