    The original chandeliers are still hanging in the lobby, which tells you something about how seriously this hotel takes its own history. Sitting in the Barrio de las Letras, the Gran Hotel Inglés is an old-school Madrid institution with velvet furnishings, brass fittings, and Rockwell Group interiors that stop just short of theatrical. The lobby bar draws a well-dressed crowd that has clearly nowhere urgent to be.
