    A boutique hotel in the heart of Healdsburg that actually looks like it belongs in California rather than a Tuscan village someone imported by mistake. San Francisco architect David Baker designed it, and the modernist bones feel rooted to this specific corner of wine country in a way that faux-Provençal stonework never quite manages. Small, stylish, and selected by the Michelin Guide, it's a useful base for anyone who'd rather spend money on Pinot than on décor they've seen somewhere in Umbria.
