The counter on the ground floor is cut from a single plank of hinoki wood that has been around for six centuries, which sets the tone before a single dish arrives. Honkogetsu is a kaiseki restaurant on the cobblestone lane leading to Hozenji Yokocho, housed in a sukiya tea-room building with hanging scrolls, ikebana arrangements, and tatami rooms above. Many small, exquisite courses in succession; nothing is rushed.
