Java Blend has been roasting its own beans in Halifax's North End forever, and the cafe wears that history without making a fuss about it. The menu runs from single-origin drip to flat whites, in sizes from a sensible 8oz all the way to a 20oz option that suggests a very long commute. Somehow it manages to feel equally at home to the pour-over crowd and everyone who just wants a large coffee, which is harder to pull off than it sounds.
