Edomae sushi in Vila Madalena, made the old way with no concessions to fusion trends. This is a traditional Japanese restaurant where the sushi bar is the obvious center of gravity, and watching the chefs work is half the point. The ingredients speak clearly enough that the menu needs no explaining. There's also a kids' play area, which is either a charming surprise or a sign that the neighborhood families have long since claimed the place as their own.
