Sri Lankan Indian
Kothu roti, the Sri Lankan street staple of shredded roti, meat, and egg, landed on the New York Times list of top dishes in the city, which tells you something about what the kitchen is doing here. This Upper East Side restaurant draws on the chef's upbringing in Kanyakumari, where southern India and Sri Lanka blur together, and the cooking tastes like it. The Michelin Guide gave it a Bib Gourmand, and the Times ranked it among the city's top 100 restaurants.
