    Three restored machiya townhouses tucked into Higashiyama make up this three-suite boutique hotel, which POJ Studio fitted out in handmade textiles, lacquerware, and craft objects that read less like decor than a quiet argument for keeping old things alive. The rooms are few enough that the place never feels like a hotel in the lobby-and-keycard sense. Kyoto pilgrimage crowds are close, but inside it's composed and still.
