    Named for a Scottish governor who once ran Penang, this eight-suite boutique hotel in historic George Town wears its colonial bones without apology. A mosaic-lined pool with a swim-up bar anchors the garden, the art on the walls was commissioned for the space, and the suites pair blonde wood and crisp linens with Bang & Olufsen sound systems. Two restaurants, a wine bar, and a cigar lounge handle the evenings. The UNESCO heritage center is a short drive away.
