    A sprawling luxury hotel planted on the Chao Phraya riverfront in Bang Rak, the Shangri-La sits far enough from the city's chaos that you might forget Bangkok is outside, yet a river taxi stop sits right at the door. The pool terraces face the water, the rooms are plush in that dependable Shangri-La way, and the hotel holds a Forbes Four Star. A good base if you want calm and connectivity in roughly equal measure.
