    A freestanding statue of a dog holds court in the gilded, Acqua del Elba-scented lobby, which sets the tone for this stately 19th-century hotel in the Porta al Prato neighborhood, close to Santa Maria Novella station but just far enough from the tour groups. Juventus and film royalty alike have checked in over the years. The outdoor pool, tucked into a green garden, is the rare Florence luxury, and Harry's Bar runs the poolside food and drinks.
