Takocho
Japanese
Dashi broth fills this old-school Kyoto oden counter before you even sit down. Copper saucepans gleam on the stove, a framed kanji sign hangs on the wall, and the chef works in a bow tie while the proprietress moves through the room in a traditional apron. The name nods to octopus, a house specialty. Off-menu items scratched on wooden tags are worth asking about, and the light, delicate broth is as Kyoto as it gets.
