A chambre d'hôte on a Shimogyo street where the owners' family has lived for generations, Tamao opened after its founders traded Kyoto for the French countryside and, eventually, came home. The tiled roof and spare wood interiors read as quietly local, but the slow-living philosophy they brought back shapes everything: seven rooms sized like small apartments, some on two floors, with kitchenettes, dining areas, and balconies onto a private garden.
