    Marble floors and cast-iron columns that a Hakka tycoon picked out still run through this colonial mansion, now a boutique hotel just outside Penang's UNESCO heritage core. Rooms mix period bones with a confident modern palette, the courtyard pool has shaded cabanas for the post-lunch heat, and the all-day Lounge handles coffee and quick bites. George Town's temples and street food stalls are essentially the backyard.
