    Butlers in white gloves and black tails unpack your bags and pour your morning coffee at this landmark Midtown hotel, a Forbes Five Star that has occupied Fifth Avenue's corner since before anyone you know was born. The marble staircases and original brass detailing survived a recent renovation intact, so the grand-hotel theatrics feel less like nostalgia and more like the building simply refusing to modernize its personality.
