    A 19th-century mansion hotel where the stone facade and courtyard are reassuringly stately, then the interior arrives like a polite ambush: contemporary art, handpicked artisans, and 20 rooms ranging from warm and woody to full-tilt postmodern color. No formal restaurant, but the kitchen will send food and a glass of serious Bordeaux anywhere you like, at any hour. The proprietors clearly had opinions, and the discipline to act on all of them.
