The Top 65 Coffee Shops in San Francisco

The best coffee shops in San Francisco, by the professional record: Sprudgie Awards, San Francisco Chronicle, and The Infatuation have all weighed in, and their honors are what rank this list. HI NRG comes out on top.

Equator Coffees and Mother Tongue Cafe & Bar hold the next two places. The Infatuation shows up on more of this list than any other guide, with San Francisco Chronicle close behind.

  1. Rank 13. Sirene

    American Wine Bar

Fried chicken and Chartreuse slushies share a menu here, which tells you everything about the spirit of this neighborhood bistro on Grand Avenue. The team behind the Morris in San Francisco brought their seafood-and-ferment instincts across the Bay, and the result is a wine bar with exposed brick, a vine-covered back patio, and wood-fired mussels that make the whole premise feel inevitable. The San Francisco Chronicle named it among the top 100 restaurants in the Bay Area.

  2. Rank 21. Shoji

    Japanese

  3. Loaves lined up on shelves like a carb library, pastries under glass, and a window straight into the breadmaking operation: Backhaus is a downtown San Mateo bakery and coffee shop that takes laminated dough seriously. The croissants lean toward the ornate, one arrives garnished with pistachios and raspberry as a preview of what's inside. The San Francisco Chronicle named it among the Bay Area's best bakeries and best coffee.

  4. Rank 27. Masterpiece Coffee

    Chinese Coffee Shop

  5. Rank 41. Delah Coffee

    Yemeni Coffee

  6. Rank 41. Kopiku Coffee

    Indonesian Coffee

  7. Rank 64. The Mill

    Coffee

Eat Score

The score comes from the awards it's won, weighted by who gave them: a Michelin star outweighs a listicle. When you sort by what's nearby, distance changes the order, never the score.

          Best Place Score

The Best Place Score rates the area around a point, not any one place. It runs on the scored places nearby: more good stuff within reach, higher score. If it looks low, we probably haven't found enough critics out here yet.
