The best cafés in Taipei, according to the experts: Sprudge and World Coffee Map have both weighed in, and their honors are what rank this list. Normal Coffee comes out on top.

More Less

Coffee Along and Coffee River hold the next two places. World Coffee Map shows up on more of this list than any other guide, with Sprudge next.

  1. A stripped-back specialty coffee shop that roasts on-site and keeps the menu tight, Normal Coffee is where you go when the coffee itself is the point. The sourcing is the story: alongside the usual origins, they carry beans from the Alishan Mountain Range, Taiwan-grown and genuinely hard to find in the city. Espresso and pour-overs, a smaller footprint, no lifestyle clutter. It's the quieter, more focused sibling in a growing Taipei coffee group.

  2. The front wall opens entirely to the street, so Wenchang St. drifts in with every customer. This is an espresso-focused coffee shop run by someone with a background in blend development, and the menu stays short on purpose. You can stand at the counter for a quick shot or drift toward the open edges and stay longer. The kind of place that already feels like it's been here forever, even though it hasn't.

  3. A specialty coffee shop on Dihua Street, one of Taipei's oldest commercial strips, where the narrow shophouse format and the smell of roasting beans compete for your attention. The team roasts in-house and pours to order, which means you'll wait a little and won't mind. Relaxed enough that regulars spread out with laptops and books and nobody rushes them along.

Metros

Eat Score

The score comes from the awards it's won, weighted by who gave them: a Michelin star outweighs a listicle. When you sort by what's nearby, distance changes the order, never the score.

      Stay Score

Four fifths of the score is the awards it's won, weighted by who gave them: a Michelin Key outweighs a listicle. The last fifth is where it is: the ranked places to eat and things to do around it, and how safe the country is. When you sort by what's nearby, distance from you changes the order, never the score.

          Best Place Score

The Best Place Score rates the area around a point, not any one place. The places are 60% of it: the best of what's within reach, weighed by distance. The setting is the other 40%: how life goes in that country (how people rate their own lives, how long and how well they live, how safe they are) and what it's like right there (the air, and the weather). If the score looks low, we probably haven't found enough critics out here yet.
