  14. The dough takes three days to make, which partly explains the line of rain-soaked Vancouverites camped under the East Broadway awning. This is a casual New York pizza joint doing three styles: classic New York, Sicilian, and Detroit. The thick, crispy-edged Detroit pies in particular have developed a following that shows no signs of thinning out, regardless of weather, which in Vancouver is really saying something.

  15. The hand-chopped-to-order carnitas are what people talk about, and the tortillas are made in-house, which matters more than it sounds. Chancho is a taco spot on Commercial Drive, bright and informal, with the kind of line that tells you everything before you've read a menu. The Vancouver Magazine judges called the carnitas near perfect two years running, which is a bold thing to say about a taco joint, but the room full of regulars suggests nobody is arguing.

  16. Rank 240. Locanda dell'Orso

    Modern Italian

  17. Rank 240. Maruhachi Ra-men

    Japanese Noodles

  18. Rank 240. Prophecy

    Cocktail Bar

The basement of Hotel Georgia has cycled through a jazz bar, a techno club, and a medieval pub before landing here, which feels like an upgrade for everyone involved. Prophecy is a cocktail bar with serious intentions: drinks that look effortless and take months to develop, a mood-coded menu, and digital art shifting on the walls. It landed on North America's 50 Best Bars list. Come dressed; this one earns the low lighting.

Eat Score

The score comes from the awards it's won, weighted by who gave them: a Michelin star outweighs a listicle. When you sort by what's nearby, distance changes the order, never the score.

          Best Place Score

The Best Place Score rates the area around a point, not any one place. It runs on the scored places nearby: more good stuff within reach, higher score. If it looks low, we probably haven't found enough critics out here yet.
