Sections

The best places to drink and stay in Bogotá, according to the experts: The 50, Difford's Guide, and the Spirited Awards have all weighed in, and their honors are what rank this list. La Sala de Laura comes out on top.

More Less

Jardín Tragos y Pasteles and Hotel Casa Legado hold the next two places. The Michelin Guide shows up on more of this list than any other guide, with The 50 next.

Departments

A department belongs to one section, so choosing one narrows the list to it.

  1. The drinks list at this Bogotá cocktail bar is built around Territorio, a range of house-distilled spirits inspired by Colombia's ecosystems, each one mapped to a different landscape. Laura Espinosa, former sommelier at the celebrated Leo next door, runs the room and the project. The cocktails read deceptively simple on the menu, which is exactly the point. It holds a spot on the World's 50 Best Bars list.

  2. A narrow, greenery-lined courtyard pulls you off a Chapinero street and into what feels less like a bar than a sun-warmed garden patio where no one is in a hurry. The cocktails lean approachable and cooling, built from familiar ingredients at a subway-tiled bar, which pairs well with the unhurried crowd lingering over desserts and conversation. A spot for a long, easy afternoon drink that somehow extends into evening.

  3. A 1950s Art Deco house in the upscale Quinta Camacho neighborhood, converted into a boutique hotel by an interior designer who clearly had opinions about the outcome. Rooms are all different, sunny and simply furnished, and the communal dining room gives it more the feel of a very stylish guest house than a hotel. A garden, courtyard, and library round things out. The Michelin Guide awarded it one Key.

  4. Rank 4. Decadente

    Cocktail Bar

Polished vintage wood, red and gold light, and low-key beats set the mood at this intimate cocktail bar tucked into Zona G, Chapinero's upscale dining corridor. The drinks lean creative in ways that reward curiosity, pairing rum with chocolate and bitter aperitif, or gin with kefir and shiitake, without making a big fuss about it. A neighborhood place that happens to have a neighborhood worth traveling across the city for.

  5. A lifestyle hotel planted in Zona G, Bogotá's quietly self-congratulatory gastronomic quarter, Hotel Coco leans into its surroundings with design-forward rooms that are genuinely spacious by city standards. Some suites come with a private heated pool on the terrace, which is a persuasive reason to stay in. The two restaurants serve as the social core, and the hotel can arrange in-room massages for guests unwilling to go further than the elevator.

  6. A residential brick building in Bogotá's quieter streets sets the tone for this small boutique hotel, where the rooms feel borrowed from a well-traveled friend's apartment: compact, warm, and stocked with Marshall radios and framed photographs instead of the usual laminated card stock. HAB Café doubles as breakfast spot by day and Colombian bistro by night. The Michelin Guide has it on their selected hotels list, which tracks.

  7. A rooftop pool with the Andes framing the skyline is a strong opening argument for a hotel. This boutique property in northern Bogotá's hipper northern district was designed by Portuguese interior architect Nini Andrade Silva, and the emerald-and-gold palette earns every bit of its drama. Rooms pull back from the excess just enough, and the lounge bar and Colombian restaurant downstairs give you reasons to stay in for the night.

  9. A hangover kit and a foreplay kit come standard with every room, which tells you most of what you need to know about this 60-room boutique hotel near Zona Rosa. The rooftop bar runs until sunrise, the minimalist rooms are controlled by iPad, and the upper floors have floor-to-ceiling views of Bogotá's hills. Smaller rooms are cozy in the honest sense, so book accordingly.

  10. A gleaming purple-tinged tower rising above Usaquén, the W Bogotá plants itself firmly in the modern business district rather than anywhere near the colonial center, which tells you exactly what kind of guest it's after. Rooms are stylish and comfortable in the way the W brand has perfected, and the property holds BBC, reportedly the largest microbrewery in Colombia, if you need a reason to linger at the bar.

Eat Score

The score comes from the awards it's won, weighted by who gave them: a Michelin star outweighs a listicle. When you sort by what's nearby, distance changes the order, never the score.

      Stay Score

Four fifths of the score is the awards it's won, weighted by who gave them: a Michelin Key outweighs a listicle. The last fifth is where it is: the ranked places to eat and things to do around it, and how safe the country is. When you sort by what's nearby, distance from you changes the order, never the score.

          Best Place Score

The Best Place Score rates the area around a point, not any one place. The places are 60% of it: the best of what's within reach, weighed by distance. The setting is the other 40%: how life goes in that country (how people rate their own lives, how long and how well they live, how safe they are) and what it's like right there (the air, and the weather). If the score looks low, we probably haven't found enough critics out here yet.
