The 30 Best Tiki Bars in the World

Rum, crushed ice, and drinks with more ingredients than the glass seems to hold: the Polynesian fantasy Don the Beachcomber and Trader Vic built in the 1930s, still pouring. These are the tiki bars the critics and award juries have honored, ranked.

  1. A cannon hangs above the bar, which should tell you everything about how Smuggler's Cove calibrates its energy. This tiki bar on Gough is a three-floor rum fever dream of dangling puffer fish, skull-lined crates, rigging, and a salvaged Trader Vic's Boathouse sign hiding in the basement. The menu runs deep into obscure Caribbean and Pacific spirits, and the bartenders know the material cold. A James Beard Outstanding Bar nominee.

  2. Jeff "Beachbum" Berry wrote the books that revived tiki culture, and then he went and opened a bar. Latitude 29 sits inside a French Quarter hotel, all mid-century lines and lauhala matting, with a chunky oak bar backed by a tiki map of the world. It leans sophisticated rather than plastic-hula-girl, and the rum and fruit cocktails are the serious kind, made by people who know exactly what they're doing.

  3. Rank 2. Trailer Happiness

    Tiki Cocktail Bar

Cork tiles, shag pile, and Zombies served in tiki mugs: Trailer Happiness is a basement cocktail bar in Notting Hill that leans hard into mid-century Californian trailer-park kitsch and never apologizes for it. The room feels like a bachelor pad that got stuck in 1966 and decided to stay, which is more or less the point. Rum drinks and tiki culture are the whole religion down here, and the vol-au-vent energy is entirely real.

  4. A tiki cocktail bar that describes itself as "a tropical bar on a not-so-tropical island," which is both accurate and, given the Isle of Man weather, fairly heroic. The rum-forward drinks nod to the golden age of American tiki, and the snack menu runs to deep-fried Babybels, which tells you the mood is festive rather than precious. Ranked 28th on the Top 50 Cocktail Bars list for 2026.

  5. Rank 5. Lei Low

    Tiki Bar

Lei Low is a tiny tiki bar in the Heights where the grass cloth, palm trees, and tropical tchotchkes do most of the travel planning. The rum selection is deep enough to require a plan, and the Navy Grog and Singapore Sling are on hand for people who like their classics served with a tiny umbrella's worth of conviction. Large-format drinks are built for splitting, which makes this a good place to find out who in your group can share.

  6. Tiki bar named after a Dio song, perched above a dive bar on St. Mary's Strip, with rattan furniture and proper mugs but none of the animatronic pageantry the genre has lately embraced. The drinks run from tropical classics to stranger originals, and the whole setup feels more like a cool relative's cluttered attic than a theme park. Which, given the name, is probably the point.

  7. Frosted mugs pulled straight from a freezer behind a bar draped in kitschy tchotchkes: this Grand Avenue tiki dive bar has been an institution since truckers were rolling through on Route 60. Wood paneling, tiki-style tables, a pool table, and a patio where the smoking happens. On Tuesdays a DJ spins vinyl, playing what the regulars call "funky mutant dance music," and somehow the night outlasts your intentions. Cash only, so plan accordingly.

  8. The mugs lining the walls are collector pieces rescued from legendary tropical bars that have since closed, which sets the tone for what Porco is: a tiki cocktail bar that takes the genre seriously without taking itself too seriously. Bartenders in Hawaiian shirts build mai tais and zombies from proper spirits and house syrups, and the dry-ice garnishes are genuinely theatrical. A patio out back handles the overflow when the enchanting interior fills up.

  9. Rank 12. Old Love's

    Tiki Bar

A basement rum bar beneath Old Mate's Place, Old Love's takes its tiki cues from before the genre went full plastic flamingo. The team's fixation is Caribbean rum, and the rest of the sugarcane world gets its due as well. One co-owner literally wrote the book on the stuff, a guide to what's on offer with cocktail pairings included. Descend when you want someone to make a genuinely considered drink decision on your behalf.

  10. The awards

  11. A small bridge over a little moat takes you from a residential stretch of Northeast Broadway into what is, with commitment, a full tiki immersion. Woven palm walls, bamboo rafters, illuminated pufferfish, and three hand-carved tiki gods loom over the sunken bar while intermittent thunder rumbles and wisps of volcano smoke drift through. The rum-based cocktails are the actual point of the exercise, and nobody here seems to mind.

  12. Rank 16. False Idol

    Tiki Bar

  13. Rank 16. Revolucion Cocktail

    Cuban Tiki Bar

Bartenders here breathe fire, literally spin bottles, and set the bar itself alight, so yes, it's that kind of night. This Cuban-tiki cocktail bar on Silom pulls both locals and visitors deep into afterparty territory, with a pandan coconut daiquiri and a DJ doing most of the convincing. A buy-one-get-one deal runs before nine, and the Mexican food stall out front, same owner, is hard to walk past without ordering something.

  14. Rattan furniture, grass skirts, and cocktails arriving in vessels that would embarrass a prop department set the tone at this tiki cocktail bar on East Central. The drinks are genuinely stiff under all the kitsch, and the signature comes in a schooner glass, fuschia-hued and finished with a flaming sugar cube on a lemon slice. South Pacific camp done with a straight face, which somehow makes it funnier.

  15. Rank 19. Lil Indies

    Metal Tiki Bar

Cocktail names like "Stay the Fuck Outta Malibu" tell you more about the room than any décor description could. This cocktail bar shares a wall with Will's Pub and the self-described metal tiki bar next door, and the crowd arrives ready to argue about politics between rounds of rotating seasonal drinks. The rooms are oddly shaped and a little dingy, with French Provincial details that got lost along the way, which somehow makes the whole thing work.

  16. The lighting in this tiki cocktail bar inside Tuffy's Bottle Shop lands somewhere between "jungle shrine" and the Colonel Kurtz scene in Apocalypse Now, which tells you everything about the mood before you've ordered anything. The tiki program goes well past Mai Tais, and the vessels the drinks arrive in are half the show. Two-hour sittings keep things moving; pace yourself on the namesake Suffering Bastards, or your morning will know about it.

  17. Wicker chairs spill onto Frederick Street, which is the only hint you'll get from above that there's a full tiki bar below. Once you cross the little bridge and descend, the room opens into bamboo, Polynesian kitsch, and nautical bric-a-brac stacked deep enough to suggest someone had strong feelings about the tropics and a very generous budget. A reliably committed tiki bar in the middle of Edinburgh's New Town, which is a sentence that didn't need to exist but does.

  18. Rank 22. Grandma's

    Tiki Bar

  19. Rank 22. Mahiki

    Tiki Bar

Two floors of Polynesian-themed basement beneath Mayfair, where the "Lanai Lounge" comes lined with black bamboo and lauhala mats, and the "Aloha Party Room" below that pairs orange banquettes with 1970s lampshades. This is a tiki bar, not a quiet drinks spot, and the crowd arriving in evening wear to dance to funky tunes seems entirely unbothered by the contradiction. Come dressed for a party, because the room certainly has.

  20. Bamboo walls, puffer fish hanging from a matted rush ceiling, and hand-carved tiki poles set the mood before you've even ordered. This basement tiki cocktail bar beneath the Hotel Bayerischer Hof is the Munich outpost of the long-running global chain, which means an oversized illustrated drinks menu and tan leather banquette seating that makes the whole thing feel pleasantly, deliberately out of time.

  21. Rank 22. Trader Vics

    Tiki Bar

Canoes hang from the ceiling and buoys sway above the bar, which should tell you everything about what kind of tiki cocktail bar this is. Been around forever in the basement of the London Hilton, Trader Vic's leans fully into the bamboo-and-carved-heads fantasy without a flicker of irony. The menu is vast, rum and pineapple run through most of it, and nothing strays off-brand. Order something with an umbrella in it and commit.

  22. Rank 27. Aloha

    Tiki Bar

  23. A rolled-up parchment menu is how they present the cocktail list in this dimly lit basement tiki bar on Bath Street, and it suits the room, which runs to cane chairs, wicker walls, and hurricane lamps. The dozen classic tiki drinks cover Mai Tais and a Rum Bongo for the nostalgically inclined, while the Blingin' Berry Champagne Punch arrives with a full bottle and serves four, which is either efficient or alarming depending on your Tuesday.

  24. A semi-circular tiki bar tucked inside the Waldorf Hotel's entertainment complex on East Hastings. The room is built around a big, curved bar with a red top and a mirror wall behind it that bounces the whole scene back at you. Tiered tables ring the outer edge, leaving floor space for when things get crowded. It shares the building with restaurants and live music venues, so some nights come with a cover; earlier in the week it runs as its own thing, free to wander into.

          Best Place Score

The Best Place Score rates the area around a point, not any one place. The places are 60% of it: the best of what's within reach, weighed by distance. The setting is the other 40%: how life goes in that country (how people rate their own lives, how long and how well they live, how safe they are) and what it's like right there (the air, and the weather). If the score looks low, we probably haven't found enough critics out here yet.
