The Best Places in Point-Saint-Charles & Petit Bourgogne

  1. Fourteen seats, one couple running the whole room: he cooks, she pours, and they both carry plates to the table. Sabayon is an intimate tasting menu restaurant where the chef's pastry background shapes everything, so the savoury courses build like desserts and the desserts feel inevitable. The signature wood-fired mushrooms with an arlette and juniper sabayon tells you everything about the approach. It holds a Michelin star and a spot on North America's 50 Best. Book the moment reservations open, or don't bother making plans.

  2. Rank 2. Joe Beef

    Lyonnaise Oyster Bar

The napkins are the size of bed sheets, which tells you everything about the food at this Lyonnaise French restaurant in Little Burgundy. Chef David McMillan has said he doesn't like creative food, and he means it: steaks, hand-picked oysters, rabbit, sweetbreads, and a lobster pasta that regulars treat as non-negotiable. The blackboard changes constantly. The wood bar and stag head on the wall make it feel like a neighborhood pub, which is more or less the idea.

  3. Rank 4. Foxy

    Wood-fired Mediterranean

The gilded logo on the window and a permanent haze of wood smoke inside tell you what this Griffintown restaurant is about before you've sat down. Deep gray walls, long bar, and shiny wood surfaces set a moody, modernist tone for wood-fired Mediterranean sharing plates. The kitchen leans heavily on local and plant-forward produce, with fire as the organizing principle. A Michelin Selected Restaurant.

  4. Tucked behind an old church, this converted rectory keeps its bones visible: exposed brick, parquet floors, and tables made from salvaged pew wood. Candide is a prix-fixe restaurant where the monthly menu follows whatever the market dictates, leaning heavily local and mostly plant-forward. The terrace fills fast in warm weather. A Michelin Selected Restaurant, it's the kind of dinner where the room does half the work before the food arrives.

  5. Rank 9. Le Vin Papillon

    Natural Wine Bar

The wine list runs entirely to natural and biodynamic bottles, which tells you everything about what Little Burgundy bistro Le Vin Papillon is going for. It's a sharing-plates spot from the Joe Beef team next door, with a menu that shifts on the chefs' whims. The room is lively and genuinely welcoming, the kind of place where the Michelin Guide has taken notice without anyone seeming to have dressed up for the occasion.

Eat Score

The score comes from the awards it's won, weighted by who gave them: a Michelin star outweighs a listicle. When you sort by what's nearby, distance changes the order, never the score.

      Stay Score

Four fifths of the score is the awards it's won, weighted by who gave them: a Michelin Key outweighs a listicle. The last fifth is where it is: the ranked places to eat and things to do around it, and how safe the country is. When you sort by what's nearby, distance from you changes the order, never the score.

          Best Place Score

The Best Place Score rates the area around a point, not any one place. The places are 60% of it: the best of what's within reach, weighed by distance. The setting is the other 40%: how life goes in that country (how people rate their own lives, how long and how well they live, how safe they are) and what it's like right there (the air, and the weather). If the score looks low, we probably haven't found enough critics out here yet.
