The Best Places in Khanna Yao & around

  1. Chef Pam Soontornyanakij runs this fine-dining tasting menu out of a restored Chinatown apothecary building, five stories of family history pressed into service for one of the more quietly ambitious meals in Bangkok. The food moves through Thai-Chinese culinary memory, aged duck and crab roe alongside pandan and tamarind, in courses named for feelings rather than ingredients. It holds a spot on the World's 50 Best Restaurants list, and Pam took the World's Best Female Chef in 2025.

  2. The dining room sits where a bookstore used to be, which makes a certain sense: David Thompson runs Aksorn like a library project, pulling mid-century Thai cookbooks off the shelf and cooking their recipes back into existence. It's a full-service restaurant with a Michelin star, and the menu reads as a quiet argument for dishes and cooks that official culinary history kept forgetting. Thompson's form here is hard to ignore.

  4. Rank 2. Chef's Table

    Contemporary French

A Molteni stove set into a slab of Carrara marble anchors the open kitchen at the center of this two-Michelin-starred contemporary French tasting menu restaurant on the 61st floor. Bangkok spreads out below while the chef, formerly of Hong Kong's Caprice, sends out plates so graphically composed you'd call it art, though he'd call it cooking. Seats wrap the kitchen, so the precision is part of the show.

    Contemporary French

  6. Rank 6. 80/20

  7. Rank 6. Blue by Alain Ducasse

  8. A five-generation family pharmacy in a Sino-Portuguese shophouse is now a Thai-Chinese fine dining destination, and the bones of the old building do a lot of atmospheric heavy lifting. Chef Pichaya "Pam" Soontornyanakij runs a progressive tasting menu that leans into Chinese ingredients and personal family lore. The sommelier's wine pairing is worth asking about. Potong holds a Michelin star.

  9. A tricycle hangs outside this cozy corner Thai restaurant on Charoen Krung, which is about as good a sign as any that the place has a personality. The open kitchen turns out street food-inspired Thai cooking with a little more intention behind it, and the omelette has a cult following for good reason. Distressed walls, a loft-y feel, and a Michelin Bib Gourmand make it the kind of spot where you'll want to ask what the catch of the day is.

  10. Rank 10. Charmgang

    Contemporary Thai

The name loosely translates to "curry bowl," which tells you most of what you need to know. This contemporary Thai restaurant sits in a dimly lit back alley off Charoenkrung, the kind of address you only find by having the right friend. The team trained under David Thompson at Nahm, and the monthly rotating menu shows it: Thai cooking nudged forward without being made unrecognizable. The curries anchor everything, as they should.

  20. A narrow multi-storey townhouse on Song Wat Road where exposed wooden beams and soft lighting make each floor feel like a different room in someone's very well-considered home. This is a sit-down Thai restaurant with an unusual build-your-own menu structured around five essential ingredients, each dish available in three portion sizes, plus a curated set menu if you'd rather not choose. A daily rice arrives mid-meal, and changes every day.

  23. Rank 12. Small Dinner Club

    Innovative Thai

Chef Sareen Rojanametin doesn't just cook Thai food, he interrogates it. Set in a dimly lit two-storey house along historic Charoen Krung, this intimate counter-dining experience holds everyone downstairs until the full group has assembled, then leads you up together. The black-walled room is quiet and a little theatrical, and the chef narrates each creation himself, including what he's done to tom yam, which takes a certain confidence.

  25. A rickety shack perched at the edge of the Chao Phraya, with unobstructed river views and no pretense whatsoever. Jack's Bar is the kind of old-school Bangkok drinking spot that makes you wonder how the rest of the city got so serious, serving stiff drinks and kap klaem, the Thai snacks built for sitting around with a beer. The goong cha nam pla, raw shrimp in fish sauce and chiles, has some heat behind it.

  26. Rank 28. Nai Mong Hoi Thod

    Thai Chinese

Four fifths of the score is the awards it's won, weighted by who gave them: a Michelin Key outweighs a listicle. The last fifth is where it is: the ranked places to eat and things to do around it, and how safe the country is. When you sort by what's nearby, distance from you changes the order, never the score.

          Best Place Score

The Best Place Score rates the area around a point, not any one place. The places are 60% of it: the best of what's within reach, weighed by distance. The setting is the other 40%: how life goes in that country (how people rate their own lives, how long and how well they live, how safe they are) and what it's like right there (the air, and the weather). If the score looks low, we probably haven't found enough critics out here yet.
