A tucked-away New American restaurant on a quiet Bernal Heights block, 3rd Cousin grew out of a run of pop-ups that built enough of a following to fund a real room. The chef's seasonal cooking goes wherever it wants, so handmade truffle ravioli shares the menu with uni crème brûlée. Neighbors who know the menu by heart fill most of the seats on any given night, which tells you something about how the neighborhood feels about it.
