    A marble statue of Emperor Augustus, on loan from the Torlonia Collection, holds court in the five-metre entrance hall of this luxury hotel on Piazza Augusto Imperatore. Rooms come in four color moods, bathrooms run to rare stone and bespoke mosaics, and the spa pools draw on ancient Roman bath architecture. Niko Romito oversees the restaurant upstairs. It sits at number 22 on the World's 50 Best Hotels list, which the building wears lightly.
