    Modern Persian

Save to a list Write a review On the Way Around

Natural light pours through lattice screens and past paintings by local Iranian artists at this modern Persian restaurant on West 4th. The kitchen leans into the architecture of Persian flavors: tart dried limes, fragrant spices, richness from nuts and seeds. A judge once said the food has "a mother's touch," which is either the nicest thing you can say about a restaurant or the nicest thing you can say about anything.

    The dishes from the writeups

    • Fesenjoon

“the fesenjoon is the star: a delectable, sweet and tangy stew of walnut and pomegranate molasses with slow-cooked duck leg.”

      Vancouver Magazine, 2025
    • Kookoo sibzamini

“The herbed, crispy potato pancakes (kookoo sibzamini) are delightful, too, and as light on the palate as the fresh, breezy interior design of the space is on the eyes.”

      Vancouver Magazine, 2025
    • Chocolate halva cake

“But save room for the “revelatory” chocolate halva cake, as one judge described it: “The sesame caramel lives in my dreams.””

      Vancouver Magazine, 2024

Eat Score

The score comes from the awards it's won, weighted by who gave them: a Michelin star outweighs a listicle. When you sort by what's nearby, distance changes the order, never the score.

      Stay Score

Four fifths of the score is the awards it's won, weighted by who gave them: a Michelin Key outweighs a listicle. The last fifth is where it is: the ranked places to eat and things to do around it, and how safe the country is. When you sort by what's nearby, distance from you changes the order, never the score.

          Best Place Score

The Best Place Score rates the area around a point, not any one place. The places are 60% of it: the best of what's within reach, weighed by distance. The setting is the other 40%: how life goes in that country (how people rate their own lives, how long and how well they live, how safe they are) and what it's like right there (the air, and the weather). If the score looks low, we probably haven't found enough critics out here yet.
