    An archaeological cellar winds around ancient Basel walls beneath a guesthouse that started as an artists' scheme to fund their own work. Two historic Old Town buildings hold gallery space, a theater running cabaret and comedy, and a bar with a pulse, alongside both casual and fine dining. The rooms are quieter than the agenda suggests, but the agenda is the point: this place treats a hotel stay as a side effect of a cultural encounter.
