Hatsuogawa
Japanese
The name is a happy accident: "ogawa" means little river, the natural home of eels, and this old-school eel shop near Asakusa has been grilling them over the same handed-down kabayaki sauce for generations. The current family runs it with the unhurried confidence of people who know regulars will wait, and they do, working through appetizers and sake while the chef tends the grill. Paper slips from devoted visitors cover the walls like wallpaper.
