    A restored 18th-century palace occupying an entire city block on Praça da Liberdade, this luxury hotel keeps its Belle Époque bones, marble lobby, and Swarovski chandeliers, while the library bar's wing-backed armchairs arrive in black, white, and pink. Modern art sits inside classical molding without any apparent crisis. A sun-lit interior courtyard handles tapas and wine when the city gets loud. Avenida dos Aliados is just outside the door.
