kodō
Kyoto
A former firehouse in the Arts District, now a steakhouse and Japanese restaurant where a boulder serves as a desk and natural materials do the decorating. The menu leans Kyoto, with robata, sushi, and nigiri shaped by a California hand. Patio or indoors both work, though the crowd inside will be photographing their food with a dedication that borders on professional. Off-menu specials are worth asking about.
