    A converted machiya townhouse in Higashiyama that sleeps just six, Maana Kamo sits somewhere between a guesthouse and a design object. Two bedrooms and a living room with a futon, all wrapped in the kind of moody, craft-forward atmosphere that makes you want to do nothing but sit in it. Kyoto has plenty of machiya conversions, but few lean this hard into the building's own character. The Michelin Guide has it among its selected hotels.
