A former 19th-century pleasure house across from the Moulin Rouge, converted into a five-star hotel by designer Jacques Garcia. The rooms are named for the courtesans who once held court here, and the atmosphere, all dark wood and velvet and flickering candlelight, hasn't entirely shed its old purpose. The bar is modeled on a private reading room. The spa is reserved exclusively, no shared lanes. Pigalle has cleaned up; the hotel hasn't, quite.
