Matka
Polish Eastern European
The earthenware stove in the corner sets the tone: this is a Polish restaurant tucked into a narrow medieval street in the Marais, and it feels like someone's grandmother's dining room if grandmother had very good taste in stonework and red leather banquettes. The menu is a tribute to the chef's mother, and it reads like it, with pierogi, sourdough soup, and a szarlotka that follows a family recipe. Cozy, unhurried, and genuinely unlike anything else nearby.
