    Nong's is a counter-service Thai spot built around one dish, chicken and rice, which started life as a food cart before the paper-wrapped parcels earned it a brick-and-mortar home. You tear open the package and a cloud of ginger, garlic, and pandan fogs your glasses. Soft winter squash dissolves into the broth on the side, and the whole meal costs about what a movie ticket did in 2009. Eater put it on its All-Time 38 list.
