Sections

The best places to eat in Portland OR, according to the experts: James Beard Awards, The Infatuation, and Condé Nast Traveler have all weighed in, and their honors are what rank this list. Langbaan comes out on top, and the good stuff runs deepest in Portland.

More Less

kann and Push X Pull hold the next two places. Eater shows up on more of this list than any other guide, with Portland Monthly close behind.

Departments

  1. Tucked into a 30-seat room inside Phuket Cafe, Langbaan runs themed multi-course Thai dinners built around a specific region or historical period, a different framework each seating. The menu says five courses; chef Earl Nissom sends out more than twelve. It took the James Beard Award for Outstanding Restaurant in 2024. The sommelier is often on the floor to talk through the wine pairings, which, given the food, is a conversation worth having.

  2. Rank 2. kann

    Caribbean

Gregory Gourdet won the James Beard Award for Best New Restaurant here, which tells you the industry noticed what he was doing with Haitian cuisine long before most diners caught up. Kann is a full-service restaurant where dishes like griyo and legim carry the weight of actual culinary history, not just a concept. The cooking draws on French technique and deep Haitian roots, and the menu quietly teaches you something without ever making you feel like you're in a lecture.

  3. Push X Pull is a Central Eastside coffee roaster that ferments fruit into its beans, so one week's pour-over tastes like apricot candy and the next like blueberry sweet tea. The room is concrete with aquamarine trim, relaxed enough that nobody will quiz you on terroir. If tasting notes make you nervous, the maple-and-turmeric latte is a safe ask. It ranks among the World's 100 Best Coffee Shops.

  4. Rank 4. Berlu

    Vietnamese Bakery

Berlu is a Vietnamese bakery on SE Belmont where everything is gluten- and dairy-free, and the star is a springy green pandan sponge cake so beloved that its portrait decorates the bathroom walls. You can also buy socks printed with its face. The chef won a James Beard Award for Best Chef: Northwest and Pacific, which tells you he can cook, though the line is mostly there for the cake with the merch.

  5. Rank 4. Lovely's Fifty Fifty

    Creative Pizzeria

The naturally leavened crust at this cozy Mississippi Avenue pizza shop is made with Oregon-grown organic wheat, and the toppings lean seasonal and unexpected in ways that make you rethink what belongs on a pie. Chef Sarah Minnick, who got a full Netflix "Chef's Table: Pizza" episode to herself, decorates each one with edible flowers and whatever's at the market. Save room for the homemade ice cream, which regulars treat as the main event.

  6. Rank 6. Coquine Restaurant

    Seasonal French

A neighborhood restaurant on SE Belmont where French technique quietly does the heavy lifting behind food that reads as pure Pacific Northwest. The chef has cooked in Michelin-starred kitchens, and you can feel it in the restraint, the seasoning is always doing something interesting without announcing itself. A 2025 James Beard nominee for Outstanding Restaurant, and a semifinalist for its wine and beverages program. Bring time; this is a sit-and-linger kind of room.

  7. The housemade sauces, a tomato-ginger-carrot blend built on West African spices, are so compulsively dippable that chef Fatou Ouattara now bottles and sells them at local groceries. This lively Division Street restaurant draws from across the region: suya-spiced wings, tangy lamb dibi, okra goat stew, and several vegan stews with the same depth. The New York Times put it on their Portland list, and USA Today named it a Restaurant of the Year.

  8. The name means "mix mix" in Indonesian, which is either a promise or a warning depending on your appetite. This eclectic Southeast Asian restaurant from Thomas and Mariah Pisha-Duffly blends Indonesian and Malaysian flavors with bistro instincts, dry-aged tartare showing up alongside rendang and satay. The rice table feast gives the fullest picture of what the kitchen is doing. A James Beard nominee and a New York Times pick.

  9. Carlton, Oregon has about 2,000 people and one extraordinary dinner reservation to chase. Hayward is a farm-to-table restaurant whose room, all blond wood and warm earth tones, reads more Lower Manhattan than Willamette Valley wine country. The menu is short and seasonal, built around whatever's thriving nearby, which means every visit lands differently. Named a New York Times Restaurant List pick and a James Beard Best New Restaurant nominee.

  10. Rank 10. Le Pigeon

    Modern French

The foie gras profiteroles have been on the dessert menu so long they've become a Portland landmark in their own right. Gabriel Rucker's modern French tasting spot on East Burnside has been doing ambitious, slightly unhinged prix fixe since forever, the kind of cooking where sturgeon pastrami with caviar shows up next to a vegetarian finger sandwich and both feel inevitable. A James Beard semifinalist, and still the room where Portland chefs go to be impressed.

  11. The wine list runs from cult Champagnes to obscure Loire Valley producers, which tells you a lot about what you're walking into. Davenport is a cozy neighborhood restaurant on East Burnside where the cooking is technique-forward without being theatrical, rotating through whatever ingredients are at their peak. The room is sophisticated without making anyone feel underdressed, which in Portland is harder to pull off than it sounds.

  12. Rank 12. Nodoguro

    Japanese

  13. Rank 14. Nodoguro

    Japanese

Each dinner follows a literal script, with courses named Acts I through V and a menu built around a short story or novel that changes every six weeks. Nodoguro is an intimate Japanese omakase tucked into a downtown building, where the chef composes each plate in front of you at the bar. Ryan Roadhouse sources his rice from Hokkaido, and the whole thing moves with the quiet precision of someone who has thought very hard about the order of things.

  14. Nong's is a casual counter-service Thai spot that grew out of a one-dish food cart and still mostly sticks to the plan: poached chicken over rice cooked in the schmaltz, with a cup of clear broth on the side. The ginger sauce has the kind of following that has Portlanders keeping a bottle in the fridge door like a family heirloom. It's cheap, easy, and the city's default answer to a cold.

  16. Sommelier Brent Braun runs the cellar here, with a wine list heavy on Riesling, Oregon producers, and natural bottles, plus small-batch collaborations with local winemakers usually poured by the glass. The kitchen leans seasonal and vegetable-forward, the kind of room where the food earns its place alongside the wine rather than playing second fiddle. A James Beard Semifinalist for Outstanding Wine and Other Beverages Program, this chic Hawthorne wine restaurant draws the crowd that actually reads the back label.

  17. Rank 20. Cafe Olli

    Neapolitan Pizzeria

The wood-fired Neapolitan pizzas come out gently charred, topped with whatever the Pacific Northwest is doing well that week. Cafe Olli is a pizza and brunch spot on MLK that also runs a serious bread and pastry program out of the adjoining bakery. The New York Times put it on their restaurant list and the chef landed a James Beard semifinalist nod, which tracks for a neighborhood place that treats zucchini and peaches like they have something to prove.

  18. Rank 20. Han Oak

    Korean

Tucked behind a parking lot, Han Oak is the kind of Korean restaurant where you might have to step over a toy truck to reach the courtyard. The chef runs it next door to his own house, which tells you everything about the register: clamorous, buzzing, and genuinely homestyle. The seasonal menu leans into braised short ribs and bold pantry flavors, and the cocktail list throws gochujang into a mezcal drink without apologizing for it.

  19. Rank 20. Kachka

    Eastern European

The dining room is built to look like a Soviet dacha, complete with turquoise shutters and diagonal wood paneling modeled on the owner's great-grandparents' cottage. Kachka is a full-service Eastern European restaurant where the menu runs from happy-hour zakuski and herring salads to Siberian pelmeni and rabbit braised in a clay pot. Horseradish-infused vodka from the team's own distillery handles the rest. The New York Times named it among Portland's best.

  20. Carlo Lamagna built out much of this corner dining room himself, and that DIY spirit still reads in the space. Magna Kusina is a modern Filipino restaurant on a quiet Clinton Street block, with a bar program and chef's counter rounding out the room. The squid ink noodles with crab fat have become one of those Portland dishes people bring up unprompted. The chef was a James Beard nominee in 2022.

  21. Rank 20. MÅURICE

    Bakery

The quiche arrives as though it's never heard of the stodgy version you've had before, light and trembling where quiche has no business being either. MÅURICE is a French-leaning pastry luncheonette from chef Kristen Murray, drawing from French and Norwegian traditions for a small menu of smørbrød, soups, and sweets. The black pepper cheesecake has its own local mythology. A cold bottle of white at midday in downtown Portland, and nowhere else quite like it.

  22. Nong's is a counter-service Thai spot built around one dish, chicken and rice, which started life as a food cart before the paper-wrapped parcels earned it a brick-and-mortar home. You tear open the package and a cloud of ginger, garlic, and pandan fogs your glasses. Soft winter squash dissolves into the broth on the side, and the whole meal costs about what a movie ticket did in 2009. Eater put it on its All-Time 38 list.

  23. The open live-fire grill runs the length of the kitchen and puts on a show whether you book a counter seat or not. This Argentine-inflected steakhouse has been an institution on MLK forever, with Greg Denton and Gabrielle Quiñónez Denton behind the flames. The asado is built for at least two people and their ambitions. The chowder, meanwhile, arrives with a smoked marrow bone floating in it, which tells you everything about the kitchen's sense of humor.

  24. The chef's counter at this vegan tasting menu spot on Belmont seats you close enough to watch the kitchen improvise, and some dishes on any given night will never appear again. Aaron Adams moves between produce-forward simplicity and molecular technique without making either feel like a statement. The sourcing runs local and specific, down to tofu from an old-school Portland maker. The New York Times put it on their Portland shortlist.

  25. Rank 27. Canard

    French

Canard is a loose, loud French-ish diner on East Burnside, next door to Le Pigeon, where fast food gets a sommelier. Steam burgers, garlic fries, and tartare scooped with fried saltines share the table with serious Burgundy, and the whole thing costs less than you'd fear. Eater named it one of the best new restaurants in America, which the cheeseburger-and-foie crowd seems to have taken in stride.

  26. RingSide is a white-tablecloth steakhouse where the onion rings arrive piping hot and the martinis arrive cold enough to pass for a legal argument. The bar is sunken and dimly lit, with little booths made for settling in, and the Blazers are usually on, losing quietly. The menu runs to three kinds of Japanese Wagyu and a wine list the size of a hymnal. It also holds AAA Three Diamonds. Dress like you're staying.

  27. Rank 27. Xiao Ye

    First-generation American

The name means "midnight snack," which is about right for a casual restaurant where khao soi radiatori and green curry lamb with pakoras share a menu without apology. The team calls it first-generation American food, drawing on growing up Taiwanese American and cooking across the country. Monthly Wednesday burger specials and weekend brunch with Taiwanese rice porridge keep regulars checking the calendar. End with a gelato flight and no regrets.

  28. Rank 31. Hà VL

    Vietnamese Noodle Shop

No website, no Instagram, just a strip mall address and a fan-run page to track the daily rotating soups. Hà VL is a Vietnamese noodle shop where the bowls do all the talking, and the fermented fish noodle soup alone explains why regulars treat the weekly schedule like a train timetable. A 2024 James Beard semifinalist, and the kind of place the New York Times flies someone to Portland specifically to write about.

  30. Rank 31. L'Orange

    Seasonal Bistro

The dining room sits on the second floor of a Victorian house that has been many things over the years, and it still feels lived-in. Modern French cooking with a Pacific Northwest accent is the move here, seasonal and unshowy, the kind that makes you want to book the chef's counter and stay while the afternoon light changes. The New York Times named it among Portland's best. A glass from the thoughtful wine list and a couple of small plates, and it's easy to see why regulars never really leave.

  31. Pandan waffles and fish sauce bacon on the same menu sounds like a dare, but this counter-service Vietnamese brunch spot on Alberta Street pulls it off without a second thought. Rice bowls, breakfast burritos, and rotating pastries like matcha cinnamon rolls round out a menu that treats Vietnamese American cooking as brunch's natural home. The Vietnamese iced egg coffee reads as dessert and caffeine simultaneously, which covers two needs at once.

  33. Oma's Hideaway is the loud, shiny little sister of Gado Gado, a Division Street restaurant where psychedelic Indonesian music plays over a menu that treats the word "restraint" as a rumor. Salted egg yolk curry fries come with sambal ketchup, and lamb satay arrives tucked inside a fried steam bun. The bar glitters like a disco ball, so the drinks keep pace, and nobody here is quietly checking their phone.

  34. Rank 31. Rose VL Deli

    Vietnamese

A small Vietnamese soup counter in a Southeast Powell strip mall, open each morning until the pots run dry, which happens faster than you'd expect. Two or three soups rotate daily, with Saturday drawing people specifically for the cao lầu, a Hoi An regional noodle dish that rarely makes it this far from home. The Vietnamese iced coffee hits harder than you're ready for. Come early, bring cash, and don't stress the menu because there isn't much of one to stress about.

  35. The hand-dipped corn dog has a crunchy-to-spongy ratio that would make a state fair concessionaire jealous, which tells you most of what you need to know about Tulip Shop Tavern. It's a dive bar on Killingsworth with Rainier tall boys and oak-aged saison sharing the beer list, cocktails that actually require skill, and a smash burger that's started more than a few arguments about the best in Portland. The fried chicken sandwich comes pickle-brined with Alabama white sauce, and nobody's complaining.

  38. Rank 40. The Paper Bridge

    Northern Vietnamese

The menu at this Northern Vietnamese restaurant annotates each dish with culinary and cultural history, so you'll know why the Dungeness crab spring rolls arrive in the square shape customary to Haiphong. The team makes their own rice noodles, a laborious thing few bother with, for a deep roster of phos and noodle plates. Bring a group so the grilled half-duck makes sense. The New York Times put it on their 2025 Restaurant List.

  39. This Pearl District coffee shop roasts its own beans and takes cues from Korean cafe culture, which means the seasonal menu might involve shiso, gochujang, or a toasted rice latte with housemade syrup. The pour-overs are precise and the space is all polished concrete and floor-to-ceiling windows, so the laptop crowd settles in while neighbors dart through for matcha, as if the place were a pit stop.

  40. A quiet neighborhood coffee shop on its namesake avenue that, for regulars who know Portland's coffee history, carries some serious backstory: this was where much of the third-wave scene got sorted out. These days it's a warm, unhurried spot to order a Coava latte and take a picnic table outside. The ambition is still in the cup; the scene has mellowed considerably.

  42. Exquisite Creatures is a plant-based coffee shop in the Central Eastside where the seasonal drink menu reads like a dare, and the orange Tootsie Pop latte is the one people mention first. It all runs on house-roasted espresso, which keeps the strawberry-jalapeño matcha from collapsing into a bit. There are pastries and sandwiches, plenty of foliage, and an unhurried pace for a coffee order that costs a few dollars.

  43. Futura is a Montavilla coffee shop done up in ivory and beige, with enough tables that you can spread a laptop, a notebook, and a minor existential crisis without bumping anyone. The menu leans on phrases like "regenerative agriculture," which you can nod along to while ordering a latte with hibiscus-rose syrup. The choripán breakfast sandwich, all garlic aioli and chimichurri, handles lunch before noon. There's a second branch in Arbor Lodge.

  44. Rank 43. Higgins

    Portuguese

Portland's original farm-to-table restaurant has been around forever, and after a near-death experience a couple of years ago, a social media S.O.S. brought the regulars flooding back. The dining room is a proper sit-down affair, seasonal and ingredient-driven, with a rustic bistro in back that runs a serious burger and one of the better beer lists downtown. A block from the Arlene Schnitzer, it's the obvious pre-concert answer.

  45. Rank 43. Jacqueline

    Pacific Northwestern Seafood

Dollar oysters at happy hour put Jacqueline on the map, but this Pacific Northwestern seafood restaurant on Southeast Clinton has a lot more going on. Hamachi crudo gets grilled pickled pineapple and fermented fish funk; smashed cucumbers come with Oregon dulse and whipped tofu. The room moved to a bigger space recently, which the neighborhood took as good news.

  46. Rank 43. Kalesa Coffee

    Filipino Coffee Shop

Kalesa Coffee is a tiny Filipino coffee shop on the ground floor of a brick office building in Eliot, and finding it means spotting a horse sign and walking through a gate that is, reassuringly, unlocked. The drinks lean on Filipino flavors, like cold brew crowned with violet ube cream and an espresso tonic sharpened with calamansi. The guava empanadas in the pastry case tend to vanish, so arrive early or make peace with it.

  47. A coffee shop built inside a former bus shelter, which explains the glass roof and the wraparound doors still in place. The drinks lean into ingredients like black sesame cream, mugwort, and ube alongside straight espresso for the unconvinced. Pastries come from Bakeshop, and the farmers market crowd pours in on weekends. A fine place to stand at the corner and feel like a local, even if the bus never comes.

  48. Rank 43. Lilia Comedor

    Pacific Northwest

Blue corn masa dumplings crowned with black trumpet mushrooms, marigold petals from the chef's garden, and a menu that changes every week: Lilia Comedor moves at the pace of what's actually growing. It's a relaxed sit-down restaurant where Mexican American cooking meets Pacific Northwest ingredients, handled with the kind of technical precision that makes the combination feel inevitable rather than conceptual.

  49. Light-roast single origins anchor the menu at this Alphabet District coffee shop, where the room manages to feel both polished and lived-in. The shelves are stacked with brewing gear and merch for the home obsessive, and regulars who already know their order fill the space with the easy hum of a neighborhood that's claimed its café. Eater named it among Portland's top coffee shops, which will surprise no one who's been in on a Tuesday morning.

  50. Sweedeedee is a small all-day café in North Portland where the mugs are pottery, the shelves are hand-tagged, and a turntable plays records the house sometimes trades food to the neighbors at Mississippi Records for. Breakfast runs on griddled corn cakes, a thick Spanish tortilla, and a pastry case that changes daily. It is so thoroughly Portland that you may feel the urge to apologize for your phone.

  51. Rank 43. Tōv Coffee

    Egyptian Café

This Hawthorne coffee shop brews its Egyptian coffee with cardamom in a tray of hot sand, which makes your usual drip look like it isn't trying. The room is all jewel tones and Persian rugs, and the cardamom latte and rose mocha come with a square of semolina cake. It used to live in a double-decker bus, so the sand tray is a rather natural next step.

  53. This is a Cantonese dim sum hall out on Division, with a banquet-room floor plan and carts that never seem to stop circling. 55. Rank 57. Kaede

    Edomae Sushi

A 16-seat sushi counter in Sellwood where the omakase is more of a starting point than a fixed path, you can build on it with à la carte nigiri or skip the set entirely. The fish skews edomae, the sourcing is serious, and the prices are modest enough that the place fills quickly with people who figured that out early. The New York Times put it on their Portland list, and it earns the mention without any fanfare.

  56. Rank 57. Navarre

    European

Navarre is a candlelit neighborhood restaurant on NE 28th where you order by checking boxes on a clipboard with a pencil, like a very pleasant pop quiz. The menu roams the globe in small plates, nearly everything comes in half portions, and the wine list runs about 80 glasses deep. Weekend brunch means eggs ten ways, a mountain of crusty bread, and specials served with oversized vintage spoons. It's on Portland Monthly's and Time Out's best-of lists.

  58. Burmese food in Portland, done by three friends who started at a farmers market and still shop like it. Rangoon Bistro is a casual neighborhood spot with warming curries, noodle dishes, and thoke, the fermented-tea-leaf salads that arrive in a satisfying tangle of crunch and funk. A Malaysian-style fried chicken with coconut rice and belacan nods to where two of the founders spent time living and working. Patio seating, to-go, delivery, the whole deal.

  59. The zinc bar top is probably the most honest thing about St. Jack: it tells you exactly what you're in for before you've ordered a drink. This is a French-leaning bistro on NW 23rd, the kind where steak frites and a martini at the bar feels like a complete plan, but where the kitchen also runs scallop crudo and roast chicken goosed with Espelette pepper. A grand cru Burgundy is available if you're feeling generous with yourself.

  60. Paper lanterns and candles keep things moody at this night-market-style Chinese-Thai restaurant on SE Stark, inspired by Bangkok's Chinatown. The team behind Langbaan runs a freewheeling room where wide rice noodles and double-fried chive cakes share space with a kangaroo martini that landed on Esquire's list of the best martinis in America. The New York Times put it on their 2024 restaurant list, which is the kind of thing that happens when the food is this alive.

  61. EEM is a Thai restaurant that also happens to run a Texas barbecue pit, which is the kind of sentence that sounds like a dare and somehow works. Brisket burnt ends land in coconut curry, and the BBQ fried rice arrives with plenty of heat. You eat at sidewalk huts or in the café-bar, pay prices that stay friendly, and tackle the tropical drinks with the urgency of people who parked six blocks away.

  62. Named for the bustling Jakarta markets that shaped the chef's cooking, Pasar is an Indonesian restaurant on Alberta Street where the snacking is the main event. Coconut rice wraps around shredded chicken, a chile-bright coconut soup arrives buried under fried tofu and tempeh, and the desserts lean toward a crispy banana-and-chocolate crepe that earns its reputation. Bon Appétit named it one of America's Best New Restaurants in 2024.

  63. Luce is a small Italian trattoria on East Burnside, with a checkerboard floor, floor-to-ceiling windows, and shelves of jarred things that make it feel like a mini-mart from a more graceful era. Antipasti run a few dollars, pastas come in half portions, and the house wine arrives in little tumblers. They don't take reservations, so the plan is to show up and look relaxed about waiting. It has made both the Eater and Portland Monthly best-of lists.

  69. Pillowy housemade flour tortillas wrapped around smoked meats are the whole argument here. Matt Vicedomini built his name on Texas-style barbecue, and Texas Monthly noticed, but this casual taco counter is where that smoked-meat skill gets genuinely interesting. Pork belly with guacamole and pickled onions, brisket in the breakfast tacos available all day, smoked mushroom fajitas for the non-meat crowd. Bon Appétit named it one of America's Best New Restaurants.

  70. Rank 74. Nostrana

    Italian

Wood-fired oven anchoring an open kitchen, high ceilings, warm wood everywhere: Nostrana reads like the kind of Italian restaurant Portland genuinely needed someone to get right. Chef Cathy Whims built the menu around regional Italian cooking and Pacific Northwest ingredients, with pizza holding its own among the broader offerings. The naturally leavened dough and housemade mozzarella keep purists happy without making the rest of the menu feel like an afterthought.

  71. Rank 76. Apizza Scholls

    New York-style Pizzeria

You can't build your own pizza here, and that's the point. The menu lists eighteen pies, each already balanced by a chef who spent years making bread first, and you can feel it in the dough, a long-fermented thing with real acidity and char underneath. Fresh-sliced cheese, no customization, and they sell out, so booking ahead saves heartbreak. A small, no-frills pizza parlor on Hawthorne that tastes entirely like itself.

  72. The counter has one view worth having: the ovens, going all day. Scottie's is a New York-style slice shop on SE Division, small enough that one booth and a high table constitute the seating plan, with a couple of benches outside when Portland cooperates. The menu runs classics alongside a vodka slice and a reimagined Hawaiian, with a grandma square that earns its square footage. Counter staff will talk you through it without making it a whole thing.

  76. Rank 79. Ken’s Artisan Pizza

    Wood-fired Pizzeria

The wood-fired oven scents the whole room before you've found a seat, which is the idea. Ken's is a casual pizza spot on SE 28th where the dough ferments long and the crust lands somewhere between Neapolitan and what Portland thinks pizza should be, which turns out to be a persuasive argument. Ken Forkish runs the show, and the wine list is a step above what the no-reservations vibe might lead you to expect. It placed on 50 Top Pizza USA.

  86. Rank 91. Grana

    Neapolitan Pizzeria

The open oven sits at the center of the room like a piece of furniture someone actually thought about, which tells you a lot about Grana before the pizza arrives. This is a contemporary Neapolitan pizza restaurant on East Burnside, bright and carefully put together without feeling precious. The dough runs high-hydration and long-fermented, San Marzano tomatoes and buffalo mozzarella alongside whatever's local. It landed at 26 on 50 Top Pizza USA.

  87. Rank 91. Hapa Pizza

    Neapolitan Pizzeria

A pizza shop in Beaverton where the dough is made with a biga starter, splitting the difference between Neapolitan softness and New York chew, then topped with flavors drawn from Asian pantries. The combination landed Hapa on the 50 Top Pizza USA list. The room is warm and the kitchen moves fast, which matters when half of Beaverton decides to show up at once. Original without being weird about it.

  88. Javelina is a casual counter-style spot in Northeast Portland where frybread does the heavy lifting, as tacos with bison chili, as the bun on the powwow burger, or tossed in cinnamon sugar. The chef is quick to point out that wheat isn't native here, so the rest of the menu sticks to First Foods like elk, wild rice, and blue corn. Eater lists it among Portland's best, and Esquire counted it among 2025's best new restaurants in America.

  89. Slushy machines churn Technicolor drinks behind the bar, which sets the tone for this Northern Thai restaurant occupying the storied space where Pok Pok once stood. Earl Ninsom runs the room and the kitchen turns out gai yang chicken with a chargrilled, fish-sauce funk and a khao soi that makes you keep reaching for the bowl. It landed on the New York Times Restaurant List in 2026.

  90. A mother-and-son food cart in a Milwaukie food park, turning out Guyanese cooking that's rare in Portland and rarer nationally. The namesake bakes are fluffy, slightly sweet fried-dough pockets stuffed with anything from salt cod to Nutella, so lunch and dessert can share a single pastry. Curry and chow mein reflect Guyana's Indian and Chinese roots. It's cart-priced, with covered seating nearby, and Eater has put it on its list of the best in town.

  92. Rank 97. Bun Bo Hue Restaurant

    Vietnamese Noodle Shop

This Lents noodle shop is named after its one big move, the spicy beef soup from central Vietnam, and it sees no reason to hedge. The broth runs meaty, shrimpy, and lemongrass-bright, with collagen-heavy cuts, pork blood cubes, and thick, slippery noodles. A plate of banana blossom, basil, mint, and lime arrives for you to dump in. Eater's list of Portland's best restaurants and food carts includes it. Dine in or call ahead.

  93. Rank 97. Casa Zoraya

    Peruvian

The pisco sours here taste like someone in Lima is personally offended if they're made any other way. Casa Zoraya is a cozy Peruvian restaurant in the Piedmont neighborhood where ceviches arrive looking almost too composed to eat, and beef heart skewers on the starter menu separate the curious from the cautious. The back patio earns its reputation on a warm evening.

          Best Place Score

The Best Place Score rates the area around a point, not any one place. The places are 60% of it: the best of what's within reach, weighed by distance. The setting is the other 40%: how life goes in that country (how people rate their own lives, how long and how well they live, how safe they are) and what it's like right there (the air, and the weather). If the score looks low, we probably haven't found enough critics out here yet.
