A hidden passageway off Calçada do Tijolo leads to this boutique hotel tucked between Bairro Alto and Príncipe Real, which is a promising start. Inside, the mood is less "exclusive enclave" and more communal living room: guests drift between a leafy courtyard, a shared kitchen, and a sitting room designed around the Portuguese idea of a pátio. Rooms are pale wood and white linen, many with rooftop or estuary views. Nobody seems to be in much of a hurry, which is sort of the point.
