    Dark exotic woods and Portuguese-discovery-era artwork give this luxury hotel on Avenida da Liberdade the feel of something smaller and more considered than a big international brand usually manages. The French-inflected decor runs to gold, taupe, and teal accents, with the occasional Asian relic folded in. Flagship boutiques line the boulevard outside, so pack accordingly. A calm, well-dressed base for Lisbon.
