    The neo-Gothic facade on Avenida dos Aliados sets the tone before you've even walked in. This grand luxury hotel carries its art deco bones well, with Portuguese marble floors, jewel-toned rooms, lacquered woodwork, and ornate mirrors that stop just short of too much. Bar Américain handles classic cocktails in suitably moody fashion, and the spa takes an ocean theme seriously. The kind of address where the bellhop arrives before you've put your bags down.
