    Check-in happens beside a fireplace, with a cocktail in hand and no reception desk in sight. The Place Firenze is a boutique hotel on Piazza Santa Maria Novella, done up like a Florentine townhouse: gold-plated mirrors, deep sofas, smiling staff who seem to know you. The train station and Via Tornabuoni are both a short walk away, which the guests, a quietly eclectic mix of musicians, royals, and artists, seem to appreciate. It holds a Forbes Four Star.
