    A former imperial family residence in a quiet Kyoto neighborhood, Yoshida Sanso is a traditional ryokan that earns its hush the moment you pass through the gate. The historic main building carries restrained modernist touches, stained glass among them, and every room faces a carefully tended garden. Ginkaku-ji and Philosopher's Walk are both on foot, which is convenient when kaiseki dinner is waiting back at the inn.
