The best resorts in Slovenia, according to the experts: the Michelin Guide has weighed in, and their honors are what rank this list. Peterc Vineyard Estate comes out on top.
-
The region is nicknamed Slovenia's Tuscany, which sells it a little short: Brda has the Alps behind it and the Adriatic shimmering in the distance from the vineyard terraces. This adults-only estate hotel has a handful of art-filled rooms, a pool, cherry orchards to wander, and a fire pit sized for a glass of the house Rebula at dusk. Breakfast runs until noon, which implies the right pace. It holds a Michelin Key.

Why #1, not #2
Both places show 74. This one's exact Score is 74.2 and the next is 73.8, so it ranks first. We round what you see, but we rank on the exact number.
- #1 Peterc Vineyard Estate (this place) 74.2
- #2 Nebesa Chalets 73.8

Four chalets for two, perched close to a thousand meters above the Soča Valley, where clouds sometimes sit below your window and the Julian Alps fill the rest of it. This solar-powered retreat holds a Michelin Key and makes no apologies for what it lacks: no restaurant, no crowd, just wine, a sauna, and a silence that arrives faster than expected. The kind of place the phone signal quietly gives up on first.

A real castle on a private river island, which makes Grad Otočec Slovenia's only water castle and a genuinely odd place to check in for the night. The 16 rooms sit behind centuries-old stone walls and turrets, restored to Renaissance and Gothic form, with interiors that lean warm and woody rather than museum-stiff. Wine tastings happen inside one of the towers, and the kitchen works off an organic garden on the grounds. Michelin awarded it one Key.
